Christmas Paper Quilt

Since I've got a bunch of empty wall space in our house, I decided to make a seasonal paper quilt to hang in our foyer. What'll go up there on December 26? Shh... I'll figure that out when I need to. I'm the kind of person who's happy to keep up my Christmas decorations until Valentine's Day.

(When I was 16 years old, I went to China. It was April. They still had their Christmas decorations up. China is my kind of place.)

I got started by gathering some Christmas paper - some from a Martha Stewart scrapbooking kit and one of my favorite wrapping papers. I also dug out my paper cutter and some glue.

Since I had a larger frame this time (20" x 20"), I cut out 2" squares - 20 squares for 3 of the papers and 21 squares for the 4th patterns. This makes a 18" square quilt, which gives me an inch border on either side to leave white.

I pasted each square onto white 20" x 20" paper in the basic quilt pattern...

Once all of the squares were on and the glue dried, I put it into the frame and hung it up! Here's paper quilt, take two:

I have a feeling there's more to come in my paper quilt career! Valentine's Day... 4th of July... Arbor Day? Let me know what you think and stay homey!

  8. Great idea! I can't wait to try it myself. Now I have to decide if I want Christmas themed or something non-seasonal that can stay up longer.

  12. I love the idea. Why stop at Christmas and major holidays - how about birthdays, or showers - both baby and wedding? I should think one could use recycled gift paper as well. Most of it can be pressed to flatten it again.

  13. I totally agree. I think it would also be a great way to use up cards that you get (baby showers, bridal showers, etc) that you don't necessarily want to keep but can't bring yourself to get rid of.
