How to Make Homemade Butter

I love a lot of things in this world.  But nothing beats unsalted butter on a yummy piece of bread with a sprinkle of sea salt.  My mouth just watered thinking about that.  I don't like salted butter.  I think it's gross.  Oh.  I'm also a salt snob, so I probably should have mentioned that.  Unless butter is made with the highest quality salt available (which it isn't) I'd rather buy unsalted butter and tweak it on my own.

I don't know why I never thought to make butter on my own at home...but I finally did and boy am I glad.  I will never, ever buy butter from the store again.  This was SO easy and SO much more delicious.

Start by adding 1 quart of heavy cream to your food processor.

Turn it on and watch you make yourself some BUTTAH.

After it whips around for awhile, it will become more and more dense as the fat starts to separate from the buttermilk.

See...butter...and buttermilk.

You spin me right round baby right round...

Once the butter starts balling up like this, it's almost done.  Drain the buttermilk and save it.  It's just like you were buying buttermilk from the store.  You can use it to make buttermilk blue cheese dressing, biscuits, or whatever else you'd use buttermilk for.

I spun it around a few more times, drained any remaining buttermilk and then gently pressed the creamy butter against the side of the food processor to press out any remaining buttermilk.  Just do the taste test.  If it tastes like butter, it's butter.  If it tastes like hard whipped cream, you need to spin it around a little more.

Instead of adding salt to the butter while it's mixing, I added fancy salt...my favorite, favorite salt, Cyprus White Flake Sea Salt

Hello friend.  Thanks for joining me today.

Stay hungry!
