Nursery Reading Nook

The nursery isn't quiiiiiiite done yet and baby Will is sleeping in our room for now anyway, but I wanted to share one very finished part of the room.  As you can see in some earlier pictures, this room (like all of our upstairs bedrooms) has a bumped out area from the dormer window that isn't quite big enough to comfortably fit a bed or a crib but was the perfect space for a nursery reading nook!

We received a ton of great baby books as gifts for Will and I decided to use them as part of the room's decoration - bright, colorful books that could be switched up as Will gets older.  Using a wall as a front-facing bookshelf cuts out the need to decorate that wall at all... the books take care of that on their own.

I thought about making my own shelves from scratch but realized there was a cheaper and easier option... Ikea's Ribba Picture Ledges.  They're pre-built and are easily screwed right onto the wall:

Jesse and I both love to read and can't wait to spend hours rocking and reading to Will in this space.  It's so cheerful and I'm thrilled with how it came out!

  1. How sweet!! I absolutely love it.

  2. Soooo cute! I see my favorite book in there- Blue Hat, Green Hat. Will is one lucky boy to have such a wonderful Mommy!

  3. I would have LOVED to have had all of those books when I was little! I was able to read by the time I was 3 (seriously!) and I just devoured books. Still do. But can I just say that I laughed SO HARD when I saw "Go The F**k To Sleep" lol

  4. What a great area of the room! I love the idea of using the books as decoration. It looks fantastic.
Thanks so much for linking up at the Real Family Fun link party! Hope to see you next week.

  5. I love those picture ledges! Every time we are in Ikea I point them out to my husband and tell him I want to do this... Now I can show him them in use. Thank you!!! They look great. I can't wait until our little one is on the way :)

  6. Aren't those Ribba shelves awesome!? We have a book nook in our son's room, I use them for a heritage gallery in the hall, and I use them for face out cookbook shelves in our pantry. I love ho you used four rows. I've been wondering how that would look, so I love the visual!

You can see our son's book nook with Ribba shelves here:

  7. Love it! It looks so great!

Thanks again for linking up at The Tuesday Baby Link Up!

  8. The nursery looks great!
I just have a question, do you feel like they hold enough books? I am considering using these for my daughter's room but I want to be sure that the depth is enough.

    1. He's only 6 months, but he has a TON of books on there and we use the shelves every day. I keep some books in front and some in back (depending on the width of the books) and everything fits nicely. It probably depends on how many books you have but I love them and I love having the books facing out.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!
