Put A Cork On It

Worst blog post title to date?  Possibly.  Moving on...

I had a bunch of corks that my generous (and wine-loving) neighbors gave me for crafts a while back.  I decided to make a corkboard.  Here's what I used:

corks
serrated knife
glue
frame

First, I began cutting corks in half and laying them out over my frame...

As with the cork placecard holders I made a while back, you have to be seriously careful cutting your corks.  I cut my finger pretty badly doing this.  In fact, I would suggest just using whole corks instead of cutting them in half.  It would work just as well.

Once I had most of the corks on, I realized that there was a space that didn't fit whole corks...

...time to chop up a few more corks and fit them in...

Once the frame was full, I knew exactly where each cork would go and was ready to start glueing them down.

I put a dollop of Gorilla Glue on each cork and pressed it into place (notice my Curious George bandaged finger... I wasn't joking about slicing up my hand):

Once the corks were all on, I let the glue dry overnight and then put the corkboard to work...

If you look carefully, you can see some of the Gorilla Glue leaking out around the corks.  If I do this again, I'll use a little less (or choose a clear glue).

What do you think?  Not bad for upcycling!  Stay homey!

    1. Haha, yeah it may take a while! I tried to collect corks before my wedding (it was at a vineyard, so I thought maybe I'd use them in a crafty way for wedding decor) and even with my pre-wedding-stress-drinking, we didn't gather that many!

  4. I have enough corks to make dozens of these (don't judge me)!!

Glad you didn't sever any fingers during this too! I love the texture of this - and it's simplicity (my favorite thing)!

Love the post title too - I would have went Beyonce on this and said "if you like it, then you should of put a cork on it" - which would definitely have been the all time worst post title of all time I'm sure!
