Santa Monica Brunch: Huckleberry

During this weekend's quick trip to LA, I got to have a killer brunch at Huckleberry Bakery & Cafe in Santa Monica. After a long morning hike with my friend Jennifer & her pup at Runyon Canyon, we were ready for some coffee and a delicious breakfast. She suggested Huckleberry and, despite a bit of a wait, it was the best brunch I've had in a while.

While waiting in line, we had a chance to peruse the menu and get a look at their gorgeous pastries...

It was hard to pick what I wanted. The menu boasted some amazing stuff - a fried egg sandwich with prosciutto & gruyere, marinated peppers & burrata on ciabatta, all types of pastries & biscuits - but I went with the soft baked eggs with roasted tomatoes & white beans...

...and Jenny had the Croque Madame...

Since there was no way we were leaving without sampling Huckleberry's sweet fare (when we were both living in NYC, Jenny & I conducted an ongoing search for the city's best brownie), we also ordered the berry trifle...

and the salted caramel...

Both were SO delicious.  If you find yourself on Wilshire in Santa Monica, I suggest you stop by Huckleberry and don't worry about the wait.  It's worth it.

Stay hungry!
