Late Night Garlic Bread

Garlic bread.  YUM.

With just a few ingredients you can make something so simple, but so delicious.  This was an unplanned, very late night snack that required minimal contact with sharp objects.   Never drink and play with your kitchen knives.

Spread a thick layer of unsalted butter on french bread.  Or sandwich rolls, bagels, or hot dog buns...I've known to be quite creative (i.e. desperate).

Sprinkle seasonings of your choice.  I did one with garlic salt (above) and one with truffle salt.   Both were so good.  If you only have salted butter on hand, just use garlic powder instead.

I remember someone once asked me if the reason I used unsalted butter was because I didn't like salt.  I laughed so hard I almost choked.  I love salt.  I love salt so much that I have a collection of special salt and that's what I prefer on my food (truffle salt, trapani sea salt, pink french salt, garlic salt, Caitlin's mother-in-law's special salt, etc. etc.).

Now, shave some fresh parmesan on top.  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Place the bread under your broiler and watch closely so it doesn't burn.  If you have a toaster oven, that works too.  Shave more parm on top if desired.

MMMM so tasty.  Crispy and buttery.  Perfect little late night snack after a fun night at the bar.  I actually make this a lot.  I often serve it when we have company over and need to whip up something really quick that feeds a lot of mouths.  To make it more company "appropriate," I'll cut it on the bias and serve it with marinara sauce.  Don't mind if I do.   What are your late night favorites?

Let me know and stay hungry!
