Christmas Carols & Mod Podge

My favorite religious Christmas song, hands down, is "O Come All Ye Faithful" (my favorite secular Christmas song, in case you were wondering, is "All I Want for Christmas is You"). Every year our church sings it at midnight mass and between the beautiful singing and the peaceful, festive way our church is lit and decorated, I always feel that singing this song may be a few of the best minutes of my year. I love being with my family and I love stepping out of the church knowing that I'll wake up and it'll be Christmas.

I wanted to make an ornament that incorporated the song, and so here's what I came up with. I printed out the sheet music and lyrics and, using the old trick from 5th grade to "age" papers, soaked the paper in hot water and coffee grinds:

Once the paper had taken on a yellow tint, I let it dry and then cut it into strips and, using Mod Podge, stuck the strips to a glass ornament globe.

I kept going until the ball was covered and then let it dry.

I thought I was finished, but remembered I had some leftover glitter paint from the penguin ornaments and applied a generous layer.  Christmastime is rare in that Jesse doesn't get annoyed with me for decorating with sparkles and shiny things, so obviously I'm taking advantage of it to the fullest.

Lastly, I wrapped some ribbon around the top and hung it up.

21 more days of ornaments to go...stay homey!
