A few weeks ago, I came across this image at the lovely House of Earnest and I've had it in the back of my mind since then...
As a native New Yorker, the images of Christmastime that I usually conjure up are always much more urban - the tree at Rockefeller Center, the twinkling lights on Broadway, the pop-up Christmas tree vendors on street corners.
The image of the truck & wreath is much more bucolic than anything I usually associate with Christmas and, since I'm celebrating my first Christmas as a country girl, I knew I had to make an ornament inspired by this truck.
I started with a red toy truck from the dollar store (maybe if you have kids, you'd happen to have one of these laying around)...
and sanded it down so it looked weathered:
I glued a ribbon on top, crafted a wreath out of fake pine needles from a mini-tree, and "snowed" on the truck with a mixture of epsom salts and glitter. I tied a bow onto the mini-wreath using curling ribbon, cut in half lengthwise.
What do you think?
Today we're halfway through advent and halfway through my ornament countdown. Stay country, stay crafty, and stay homey!
